We got there about 3:30 in the afternoon and put the boys down for a nap. We were completely off our regular schedule while we were there and the boys rolled with the flow. Mama Geddie is amazing - she stays in her mountain home from Memorial day to the first of October by herself, only going out when someone comes to visit and take her out. Suffice it to say, when she has visitors, she wants to show them off! On Friday night, we went to dinner at the Rib Shack. The staff was great with the boys and the meal was much better than the last time we ate there. We couldn't get wi-fi at her house like we did 2 years ago, so after the boys went to bed, we went uptown to Bucks Coffee to have dessert and use their wi-fi.
On Saturday, we went out to breakfast to June's, then walked around town with the boys. Came home, put them down for a nap, and geared up for lunch at Nick's. (Are you getting full just reading this? I am, can't believe we ate out so many times, lol.) I had the most amazing lunch - fried green tomato salad, with goat cheese, walnuts, peppers, mandarin oranges & raspberry vinaigrette. Holy cow their food is excellent. Anyway, a quick run to the grocery store with Mama G while John took the boys to steal wi-fi, met back at the house, put the boys down for a nap, and geared up for dinner.
For Saturday night dinner, John and I went to the Wine Garden at Old Edwards Inn and Spa. Old Edwards Inn was bought several years ago by some wealthy guy and he has completely revamped the whole thing, and half the town of Highlands along with it. The Wine Garden is the patio, and about the only place we could eat there because of the clothes we brought. Mama Geddie babysat (we left after we put them to bed and she was to call us if the boys started crying, which they didn't) and we ate shrimp & grits and a flatbread pizza with a glass of wine on the patio.... Heaven. After dinner, ice cream & the auction! We didn't buy anything (again), but I think we might have heard the auctioneer use a few new jokes this time. ;-)
On Sunday, we went to June's for breakfast again (are you wondering how many pounds we gained? I don't want to know...) and then put the boys down for a short nap. Loaded up the car and got on our way when they woke up around 11am. On our way out of town, we stopped at the little lake in Mama Geddie's subdivision, Mirror Lake. Her neighborhood is SO PRETTY, and I wanted to taking the boys' 15 month pictures there. Of course, they were wearing their cute jeans and t-shirts on Saturday, and were in their State tees & shorts on Sunday - not what I wanted - but oh well. I think they turned out adorable anyway! Hard to pick a favorite, so there's quite a few here......
First up, play time on Saturday afternoon in the living room.
And now our impromptu photo session at Mirror Lake. Matt was all crooked smiles and Henry could not stop laughing.
And here's the photo I had in my head. Thinking we'll take this same photo every time we go to Highlands and watch the boys grow..... :-)
And on our way out of town we stopped ever so briefly to grab this. Unfortunately, with two babies in tow, not much time for landscapes this trip!
