3 Year Checkup

The boys had their 3 year checkup yesterday.  They look great!  No shots (we'll do those at age 4 instead of 5 so they hopefully won't remember as they get older... lol) and all their stats looked great.  She said between ages 2 and 3 she likes to see kids gain 3-5 pounds and 2-3 inches.  Perfect!  She also said that we don't have 20/20 vision until age 6 and that most 3 years olds are 20/50.  The boys were both 20/40 and were able to cover each eye and perform the test, which she said is not very common for their age.

Henry

• 35.75" tall (10th percentile and up 2.75" from last year)
• 32 pounds (50th percentile and up 3.5 pounds from last year)
• BMI at 89% (wowza) but she is not concerned at all b/c he's on his growth curve

Matt

• 36" tall (15th percentile and up 2" from last year)
• 30.5 pounds (45th percentile and up 3.5 pounds from last year)
• BMI at 66%

Also, we had speech informally evaluated on Monday and the boys are doing great!  We met with the Wake County Preschool Special Ed Services division for an informal evaluation.  We'd had some concerns in the spring and were referred for a check, and just now got in there to be looked at.  Since we were first referred, Matt's speech has really improved dramatically, so we were optimistic.  They do a ton of speech therapy there and I have been told many times by various people that they have the best speech therapists in the area.  We had an awesome experience there!  The ladies we met with were just wonderful.  Each boy got to spend about 20-30 minutes one on one with the speech therapist, Janet.  She has 20 years experience working with 3-5 year olds and said both kids are doing great, just on track.  I was able to ask her questions and she gave me a lot of comfort that a lot of their speech is exactly normal for their age.  Matt's speech was pretty much exactly normal, while Henry's was slightly better.  We can go back for a check at any time if there are questions as the boys get older, but it was a great experience.  Even better that they're doing great!

We have two more weeks of summer school, then we're off for 5 weeks before school starts back in the fall.  We're meeting more people at school and really enjoying summer school.  They have water day every Thursday (wear their bathing suits and eat a picnic lunch outside) and each week has a different theme - bugs, summer, space, farm, etc.  I'm excited for August though, we are planning to go to the pool and I have a few crafts planned.  I also recently cleaned up our bonus room and gave away a TON of clothes and toys, so now we have another play room to visit on the super hot days when going outside isn't an option.  All in all, a great summer so far.  :-)
